Food Partnerships and Strategies
Many individuals and organisations have an interest in food and health so food partnerships and strategies can be used to bring these diverse groups together.
Food is also an area in which co-operation is needed from many partners, both at a local level and a strategic level. Working in partnership can often achieve more than organisations working in isolation.
Food strategies are a way to link up partners to work towards a common goal. The aim of a food strategy is to give a clear framework and focus for dealing with food-related matters. As well as dealing with nutrition and health issues, food strategies often take into account the wider implications of food and its relationship to the local economy, environment and community relationships. Food strategies also generally focus on the food system as a whole and so cover entire food supply chain including production, distribution, retailing, consumption and disposal. Food strategies are multifaceted and so can encompass legislation, enforcement, access to and availability of healthy food, skills development and information.
