Minority Groups

orangesMinority groups may include black and ethnic minorities, homeless people, mental health service users, or those with physical disabilities. Work with minority groups can directly support their important role within the local community.

All these diverse groups have very different needs and so any food initiatives have to be planned specifically to take on board these particular issues. For example, for people who first language is not English, interpreters may be needed to assist with food safety training sessions or to translate educational materials into different languages. In order to engage different groups it is also important that any venues, including kitchens or growing areas, are fully accessible. It is also important that barriers faced by different groups are recognised so that services such as food delivery schemes can be tailored to meet their requirements.
