Public Sector Working in Partnership

variety of nuts It is widely recognised across central and local government that effective partnership working provides the key to delivering public services, and responding to the needs of communities.


Partnerships can be developed across public bodies, private bodies, businesses, voluntary organisations and across the community sector. Local Strategic Partnerships are already in place in 88 of the most deprived local authority areas to bring together local partners across all sectors with the intention of delivering sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration, as well as improved public services. This arrangement recognises that partnership work is essential to increased social cohesion and longer term improvement.

The importance of partnership work across delivery partners, the private sector and communities has also been formally recognised in a number of Government reviews and approaches, including the Hampton Review, the Better Regulation Agenda and the Haskins Report. The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) are supporting local authorities to develop strong local partnerships through their involvement in local area agreements (LAAs), the Partnership Improvement Programme and growth coalitions.

Partnership work is essential to the development of successful food initiatives, and can really help build relationships between organisations at a local level to the direct benefit of the community. Food initiatives reach across organisations interested in food, health, community engagement, sustainability, economic growth and farming.
